Laurent Dareau was born and reared in Paris, France. He is a father, a veteran, a husband and pursuing American citizenship. He received his formal training from the National Fine Art School in Lyon and his Masters of Painting from the National Superior Decorative Art School in Paris.
“My work is about time – time that goes by. Time that takes things away, making memories – but memories disappear after a while. When I paint I don’t try to express myself but to express the world around me. I believe that art is about drawing a map of our souls. It is about knowledge and reflection while color is about emotion, about sensations.”
Laurent Dareau is 45 years old and resides in Alva, Florida with his daughter Julia and his wife Anne . His son, Tanguy, lives in France.
“My painting is surely a matter of “passages”, of organizing the sight of the viewer to lead him or her to what matters…I think my only gift is to try to understand the world around me…that valleys are as important as the mountains…that colors dance with each other…that nothing exists as itself…that sadness is part of happiness, that blue has married the red…that yellow has existed since light was created…”
Laurent served, as did his father, in the French military as a Cavalry Officer in the early 90’s between under-graduate and graduate school. He went on to be a portrait artist for the French Foreign Legion and was a member of the Salon National des Peintres aux Armees. He went on to win numerous awards in various competitions and exhibitions throughout France.
In the United States, since 2004, Laurent’s works have been presented in numerous galleries and his work is in the collections of many well-known collectors including Margaret Perenchio, Carole Bayer Sager and Bob Daly, Jon Peters, Irene and Joe Roth, Yvette Mimieux and Howard Ruby, Kevin Huvane and Barbara Davis.
Among the awards Laurent has received are:
1996 Grand Prix du Salon des Peintres Militaires de la CMD de Lyon
1997 Prix de Peinture au Salon National des Peintres Militaires
