Bert Bernie

Beirne is a native Cincinnatian who received a B.F.A. from the University of Cincinnati and is currently living in the South. Using traditional techniques, she composes still life paintings of familiar, but refined, objects. Beirne explores texture as well as the dramatic play of light on each surface. She also uses contrasts in color to evoke a mood of mystery.

Beirne begins by applying several coats of primer to fine, linen canvas. She then adds successive layers of paint, creating rich colors having depth and luminosity. A final coat of non-yellowing varnish protects the surface and insures longevity. In style and technique, her works are comparable to the still life paintings of early seventeenth-century Dutch masters, with the same striking naturalism and subtle hues built by layers of translucent glazes.

Beirne‚Äôs paintings reveal her appreciation for elegant subjects such as antique violins, wine decanters, porcelain, crystal, and Flow Blue china set in an ambience of books and sheet music. She often includes textiles such as oriental rugs, tapestries or embroidered linen. During her travels, Beirne searches out antique shops to find these intriguing items.

While painting, Beirne enjoys listening to classical and contemporary music. Her oil paintings have received top awards in numerous regional and national exhibitions and are included in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Germany, Japan, and Canada.
